POSITION SUMMARY

Trim carpenters install doors, windows, trim, floors, molding, cabinets, counters, etc. for commercial, residential, and industrial buildings and other structures based on blueprints and specifications.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Trim Carpenter is accountable for performing the duties and responsibilities described below. The list, however, is not necessarily an exhaustive description of the duties and responsibilities associated with the job.

  • Trim:
    • Doors – Measure, cut, and install and adjust all interior and exterior wood doors and related trim.
    • Metal Doors and Knockdown frames – Install and adjust all metal frames and doors and related trim.
    • Windows – Measure, cut, and install all exterior windows, manufacturer windowsills, and related trim.
    • Molding – Measure, cut, and install chair rail, base, shoe, case, and crown molding.
  • Installation:
    • Cabinets/Vanities – Layout and design and installation
    • Counter tops – Layout, scribe, and installation
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed and assigned.

  • Ensure a safe work environment for all employees by following safety protocols, identifying, and correcting or reporting safety risks, and maintaining a jobsite free from debris, clutter, and hazards.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years of trim carpentry experience in the construction industry (preferably commercial)
  • High School diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and safety regulations; OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Preferred certifications to include fall protection, lull/class 7, boom/man lift
  • Ability to measure/plan, read and follow cabinet prints.
  • Critical thinking skills to analyze blueprints and layout prints, spot potential discrepancies between prints and measurements, and find ways to adjust.
  • Must own/maintain all required PPE and hand tools.
  • Knowledge of and experience using hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools.
  • Good communication skills to maintain job site safety and relay information while working with other construction professionals.
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation is required.
    • Employees are required to have reliable transportation to get to the job site, travel between job sites, purchase materials, etc.
    • Employees operating a company vehicle are required to have an acceptable driving record per our insurance policy/carrier requirements.
  • High motivation, work ethic, and enthusiasm
  • Must possess excellent communication skills
  • Ability to operate a smart device for timekeeping, communications, etc.
  • Must be of legal working age in New York State, and eligible to work in the U.S.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Keep or regain the body's balance or stay upright when in an unstable position.
  • Use fingers and hands to handle, grasp, move, assemble and control, materials, objects, tools, etc.
  • Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls.
  • Repeat the same movements (i.e., Make fast, repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists).
  • See objects/controls in bright/glaring light, see details of objects, determine distance between objects.
  • Understand the speech of another person and speak clearly so listeners can understand.
  • Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them; focus on one source of sound and ignore others.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

WORK SCHEDULE
Company operating hours are Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm. Full-time employees are regularly scheduled and expected to work 40 hours per week. Part-time employees are expected to work as scheduled. Overtime as needed and approved by the manager. All employees are required to take meal breaks in accordance with New York state law.

 

TRAVEL
Our teams meet at the jobsite. Therefore, this position requires travel to a jobsite each day, typically in the greater Rochester area. Most work projects require an extended period at a single location, though occasionally jobs are postponed or delayed which may require transportation to more than one jobsite in any given day or week. There are occasional worksites outside the Greater Rochester Area; though, wherever possible, consideration is given to the location of the employee’s home and willingness to travel. Reliable transportation is required to travel between job sites, purchase materials, etc.
